The students have been working hard on our Remembrance Day song and poem. We also had a nice discussion about why we wear our poppies and who we are remembering. During our discussion Luke made a great connection to the soldiers from Toy Story who help Buzz and Woody stay safe. Each student also made their own poppy necklace to wear to our school Remembrance Day service. Great work everyone!

Zipper Club
Today the students were given the opportunity to sign our Zipper Club poster if they could show us how they could zip their coat on their own. The students that could do it were very excited and the students that couldn't do it kept trying really hard. It was great to see students who usually ask a teacher for help, try and succeed on their own, after seeing their friends sign the poster. We suggested that everyone continue to practice at home and we will keep the poster up for everyone to sign. Great work today!

Question of the Week
Today we graphed 'which fall leaf colour is your favourite?' Where students had to choose between red, brown, yellow, orange and green. The students all did a great job choosing their colour after we read the book Fall Leaves Fall. After each colour column was finished we had a great discussion about which had the most, the least and if any had the same amount. We even gave them a bonus question where we asked them 'how many more does the orange column have over the green column?'. It was so great watching the students try to problem solve the answer and even better when some of them got the right answer! Great work today!

Sight Word and Letter Fun!
This morning the students worked together in groups of two or three to problem solve our Morning Message, which had many missing pieces. We purposely grouped an SK Leader with a JK friend to help the SK's develop their leadership skills and the JK' s to follow by example. We are working a lot on leadership and teamwork skills, as being able to problem solve and collaborate together is an important skill to have for future learning centres. Any extra practice your child can get with naming and recognizing letters, sounding out the sounds each letter makes, as well as exploring sight words and beginner books would be beneficial to the development of your child's Love of Reading!
Starfall.com is a great literacy based website that the students have been exploring on our class computers.
