Fire Fighter Fun

Today the children all enjoyed a visit from Sparky and the Fire Fighters! There was a lot of discussion about fire safety. Please help your child review your home fire safety plan together.

 

 

 

Fun Friday

Read and Walk-A-Thon

Thank you so for your continued support to our school! Your contributions to our school fundraiser our greatly appreciated! The children all seemed to enjoy walking the track yesterday in the 'big kids' part of the school yard. They also seemed to enjoy the special books that I had to share with them. Great job!

Creative Friends

The students have all been very interested in colouring, drawing and creating. Thank you so much for your continued contributions to our Maker Station, where the students are free to create anything, using the materials available.

Exploring Graphs

The other day the students and I worked on a Graph of the different ways that everyone comes to school. The children all seemed to enjoy the graphing strategy of using sponges with their names to stack in the column that works for them. After we stacked our sponges the children were able to participate in a discussion with me about which column had the most and the least, as well as how many more one column had over the other. I think the children really enjoyed the fact that they could touch and count the sponges that made up our graph. Way to go!
If you are looking for something to work on at home with your child, I would recommend counting objects, especially groups of objects. Then when they are comfortable with the counting of each object you could practice comparing the groups to see which one has more and less.

Thank you for your continued support and patience with our class blog! There have been a few minor bumps in the road trying to get our posts up and going, but I will continue to try to have something new for everyone to look at more often. Please continue to check on a daily basis, because as soon as I get all of the bugs worked out, I will be trying to post daily. Thank you!

Welcome to our class blog! The students all seemed to really enjoy their first full week with their new class! I was really impressed with how well everyone transitioned!! We were able to do lots of fun things and I'm really looking forward to many more fun and interesting things to come!
Here's some of the things we explored last week...

Here the students are all working on a self portrait to be displayed in the classroom. The students were also asked to 'sign' their portrait, working on using both the upper and lower case letters in their first name.

Here the students are working on our Tower Challenge, where they were given a variety of blocks and asked to build a structure that could stand on its own. When they were finished building, the Big Bad Wolf (a.k.a. Mrs. McMillan) went around blowing on their structures to test if they were sturdy enough. We had lots of wonderful language come up during this time... strong, stable, flat, bumpy, slippery, wiggly, heavy, light, hard and soft were some of the words that could be heard during our challenge as the students worked hard to ensure a stable structure. Way to go boys and girls!! Keep up the great work!!
