Read Aloud

Today I introduced a non-fiction book to the students titled The Rescue of Nanoose. The students were so interested in the idea of this being a real story that we didn't even read it! We had a very nice discussion about the difference between salt water and fresh water, where whales live, and why a whale would need to be rescued. We did look through the book (did a picture walk) and were amazed at how real the pictures looked. I asked the children to think tonight about why Nanoose the Whale would need to be rescued so we can talk about it tomorrow before we read the actual story. Great work today!
